ABOUT
Leila Chieko is an artist of many disciplines living in Portland, Oregon. Her diligence and creative approach shines through as Editor, Director, Cinematographer, Sound Designer, Photographer, Animator, Compositor, or Writer.
With a background in photography going back to the days of darkrooms and 35mm film, Leila took her storytelling skills up a notch while studying video production at Portland Community College. Her obsession for capturing moments makes her a natural documentarian who enjoys focusing on the details.
Leila’s first documentary short, “The World of Snowhorse Animation”, screened at the 2018 Portland Film Festival, and won Best Short Film in the 2018 Oregon Documentary Film Festival.
Leila studied stop-motion animation under the legendary Will Vinton in his Claymation Workshop, and has produced LEGO animations for the Q Center and the Portland Thorns FC.
As a child, Leila was fascinated with the macro textures of the outdoors, sparking a desire to hunt down miniature landscapes for her LEGO minifigures to inhabit. This passion has continued to the present day and you can follow her toy adventures on Instagram @brickandmordor.
Leila Chieko is also a professional drummer, bassist, guitarist, and vocalist, with two EPs showcasing her songwriting talents. She is currently drumming for Ashleigh Flynn & The Riveters.
